Dear Parents,
On Thursday of this week we had a visit from the Justice Minister, Mr Kenny MacAskill, who is our local MSP. He visited in connection with the proposed re-build of St John?s. Discussions ensued around the impact of the rationalisation and school closures in Edinburgh, in light of the current situation.
Mr MacAskill had a tour of the school building and he was very impressed by all our pupils, but especially by P7 who welcomed him.
Mr David Manson, our current PTA Chair, will keep parents updated under the new Parent Council, of any developments.
Also a reminder that the PTA AGM/EGM will be held on Tuesday 4th September at 7.00pm/7.30pm in the school hall. All welcome, but it would be particularly good to meet new parents. Please come along and give your support.
New Schools Travel Co-ordinator
Mrs Lorna Henderson takes over from Gill Kelly as Schools? Travel Co-ordinator. She will shortly be issuing questionnaires to pupils regarding our schools travel plan. A special focus on safe routes to school and ?Park Smart? will be made during road safety week. However, can I once again make a plea to parents not to double park in Hamilton Terrace at anytime. There was almost a very serious accident last week involving one of our pupils. If any parent is interested in joining our School Travel Group we would be happy to hear from you.
A Big Thank You!!!!!
A very big thank you to the parents, all mums, I think, who worked so hard on our beautiful community quilt last session. Their help with this was invaluable. We will display the quilt in school for all pupils, staff and parents to see.
ICT
During the summer holidays the school took delivery of some new equipment for the gym hall. The screen and projector means that all pupils can have more interactive assemblies and hymn practices.
Water
All classes in school participate in Brain Gym and as part of this programme we encourage drinking water during the day. Please send your child with water in a plastic bottle, or better still freeze this and let them have a cold drink.
P1 Curriculum Workshop Afternoon for Parents
This take place in the hall and P1 classrooms on Monday 3rd September from 1.45pm ? 2.45pm. Parents have been sent an invitation through pupil post.
School Security
Mr Kenny Wong, our new Property Care Manager, visited and is hoping to help us with our security.
Another plea to parents to please enter by the front door ONLY, collect a visitor?s badge and sign in and out. This will ensure we know who is in the building.
