26 Apr 2007 - St John's p6 Football Team Win School Board Cup!

St. John?s win Cup in style

In an exciting climax to a nerve-wracking evening of football, St. John?s P6 team triumphed as winners of the School Board cup. It is the first time St. John?s have won the cup since 1995 and only the second time in the school?s history, which only serves to demonstrate how impressive this year?s team performance really was.

Having reached the last eight out of 54 teams from across the city, St. John?s started brightly winning all three group games against some talented schools. A 3-1 victory against Nethercurrie was followed by a 3-0 win against Carricknowe. In the last group match St. John?s won 2-1 against Balgreen Primary to win their group.

The semi final was a tense game with St. John?s fighting back from two goals down to equalise in the second half. Extra time was exciting but provided no clear winner and so Parson?s Green and St. John?s faced the dreaded penalty shoot out. After three out of four penalties were scored by both teams, Parson?s Green blew their next one over the bar allowing Jack Wright to step up and put St. John?s into the final.

In the final St. John?s faced a stiff challenge from Davidson Mains PS and in a tense and close encounter as the light faded quickly, St. John?s scored two excellent goals to win by a 2-0 margin. All in all a fantastic achievement from a talented team who could make it a cup double against the same Davidson?s Mains team next week in the final of the Inspectors Cup.

Whilst we wish them well for that game we also congratulate the team and coaches on a great victory. St. John?s P6 team are coached by Norrie Sinclair and Mark Muirhead and the team included Marcus Campanile, Oliver Carnevale, Marc Forrest, Scott Morrison, Joseph Muzyka, Jordan Sinclair, Peter Wood and Jack Wright. The team captain was Keiran Muirhead.
