Dear Parents,
Welcome back! I hope that you all had a very restful holiday. It is good to be approaching the warmer weather and lighter mornings. This is a good time to be thinking about walking to school to help develop a more healthy lifestyle. St John?s is well on the way to becoming a health promoting school.

We are going to recycle our fruit from Snack Attack in P1 ? P3. This is a new initiative organised by Miss Farrell and Mrs Rutherford.

You will also receive booklets from the City of Edinburgh about Health Promotion and how you can support your child. Come on help us to be healthy!

Furniture
All classes have been fortunate to have new tables and chairs for their classrooms. These arrived over the February holiday. They are all in bright new colours and really lift the school environment. Pupils are being encouraged to keep one of our Golden Rules ?Do look after property. Don?t waste or damage things.?

New Violin Teacher
Ms Angelica Aydan will join our staff as a replacement teacher for Miss Kirsty Orton who will leave our staff. We wish Miss Orton every success in her new post.

Lent ? Ash Wednesday
Many thanks to our Legho Club, ably supported by Mrs McGee and Miss Christopher, for preparing our Ash Wednesday service. Well done, boys and girls.

During Lent, pupils can bring in loose change for the ?Wee Box? in their classroom. This is for SCIAF, the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund. Donations can help children in third world countries.

Birthdays!
Happy Birthday to all who celebrate their birthdays in February.

Mobile Phones??
All phones should be switched off during school hours. However, I would like to discourage pupils from bringing mobile phones to school.

Have you paid?
Just a wee note to remind parents of the Drumming Workshop for all P3 ? P7 pupils that will take place next week:

Drumming & Percussion Workshop P3-P7 on 28th February. Cost is £1.60

If you have not paid for this workshop please send £1.60 into school, to the class teacher, with your child?s name, class, amount and Drumming Workshop clearly marked on a sealed envelope.

Barnardo?s
We have set aside week beginning 5th March as our Barnardo?s week.

Pupils will be issued with an envelope which contains details of our ?Egg Care Challenge?.

Pupils can take part in this if they wish. They have to look after a decorated egg for a week, and receive sponsors for doing this. This will help children in Scotland.

Parents Forum/Council Meeting
This meeting takes place on Wednesday 28th February at 7.00pm in the School Hall.

You will have received important information in the mail during the break. It is important that the parents are well represented. So please come along and have your say.

Primary 4 Notice regarding The Celebration of Confirmation and First Holy Communion
We would like to thank all those families who have returned their prefered date slip. We are happy to confirm that based on the selection so far we can offer families their first choice. We would ask any families who have yet to return their slip to contact Julie direct by Friday 2 March. Alternatively if you have no preference, a date you will automatically be allocated at that point. Please also contact Julie with any questions you may have or to clarify your chosen date.
