Dear Parents,
Welcome back and on behalf of the staff in St
John?s, I wish you and your families all the very best for 2007. I am pleased to say that there are many positive experiences planned for the pupils in the course of the next two terms.
I would also like to thank all the parents and members of the community who contributed to the consultation process over the proposals for a new School Build. The School Board will continue to have dialogue with the Authority and Councilor Andrew Burns, in the light of what can be done to improve our school facilities prior to a new building being erected on the Portobello High School site. Please note there is a letter attached from Mr Jobson.
Hosting Arrangements
I am delighted to inform you that St John?s continues to build on its international links. A teacher from Namibia will join us from January ? March, as part of the League for the Exchange of Commonwealth teachers.
She will focus on our Scottish Education System and look closely at current educational research, spend time in classes and participate in school activities. I am sure that you will extend a very warm welcome to her.
Health Promoting School
Mrs Jan McIntyre will run 2 meetings for parents next week in line with Edinburgh University Research
Nursery Parents Workshops
Monday 4.00pm?5.00pm
6.00pm?7.30pm
Ball Throwing Research
Thursday 7.30pm in the Hall
Flyers have already been sent to the parents of pupils who are 4, 5, 7 & 8 year old.
Homework Leaflet
Our updated guide for parents is being sent out with the newsletter today. This leaflet should help to clarify queries that parents have regarding homework.
School Security
Please continue to remember to sign in and out at the main office, when entering the school for any reason. Once again, I cannot stress how important it is that we ensure the safety of our children at all times.
Appointments
Myself and members of the management team, Mrs McGee and Miss Lowrey, are always very happy to meet with parents. We would ask that parents contact the school office in the first instance to arrange a mutually suitable appointment time.
Double-Parking
Once again, I must make a plea to parents to park safely. One of the local residents has written to Councillor Berry regarding the congestion at the beginning and end of the school day, which appears to be escalating. The local police will also be present in the weeks ahead and persistent offenders will be cautioned.
January Birthdays!
Happy Birthday to all who celebrate their birthdays in January, many happy returns.
