Welcome back to all the pupils, I hope you all had
a relaxing break and re-charged the batteries enough to take us up until Christmas.
Open Morning & Enrolment P1 August 2007
For Catchment Pupils Only
The Scottish Executive intend to reduce class sizes to 25 per class for P1 pupils. Catchment pupils will be given priority.
We will be holding an Open Morning and Enrolment on Monday 13th November at 9.30am ? 12.00 noon. This will be an opportunity for children and their parents to have a tour of the school from senior pupils and meet the staff.
Halloween Lantern Making Event
Portobello Open Door (POD) are organising a Halloween Lantern Making event in the Portobello Community Centre in Adelphi Grove on Saturday October 28th. Sessions will run from 13.30 -15.00 and 15.30 - 17.00. There will also be a ?Guisers Gatherin' with Storyteller at the Community Garden on the Prom (bottom of John Street) on Tuesday October 31st between 18.00 and 19.00 (weather permitting) where children (and their parents!) can dress up and bring their lanterns along for some fun on Halloween.
Calling all Holy Cross Former Pupils
In September 2007 we celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the school?s foundation. If you are interested in taking part in events to mark the occasion and wish to find out more, please make contact in one of the following ways, leaving your name, the years you attended Holy Cross and either a telephone number or e-mail address.

Irish Dancing?Michael Flately look out!
On 13th October Grant Morrison P5 won the Under 9?s highest score for the boys in the All Scotland Championships. On 21st October he came second for the under 9?s boys in the East of England Championship. He is entered for the Scottish Qualifying Championship 2006 on 18th November which would allow him to enter for the World Championships if he qualifies.
Book Fair
Thanks to all who came along and helped support our school Book Fair. The children were excellent and very enthusiastic. The grand total was £978.74. Well done to all!
Cycling Safely through the winter months ? Clocks go back 29 October. Information for Parents??.
TryCycling in Edinburgh is a campaign that has the support of a number of cycling organisations, as well as the City of Edinburgh Council. To encourage all cyclists to use lights, it asked bike shops in Edinburgh if they would offer a discount. Almost all agreed! So - 10% off lights between the 21st and the 30th of October 2006. (Shops also with 10% off reflective items *) Great Bikes No Bull say they'll fit lights free of charge - presumably on bikes bought from them.

Sacramental Preparation for pupils in P3 and P4
Parents who may wish their child to begin the journey towards celebrating their First Reconciliation should be aware that the programme will be starting shortly. A letter inviting you to come along to an initial meeting will be issued within the next couple of weeks. Contact will also be made with those who are already involved in the programme and working towards the sacrament of First Communion.
Please do not hesitate to contact Julie Collins on 669 8089 with any questions you may have regarding the Sacramental Preparation programme.
Garden Picnic
Friday 10th November at 12.00noon
The play bark needs replacing in the garden. Will you come and help spread it on the paths and around the climbing frame. It?ll be a fun few hours and we?ll have a picnic together after school on Friday 10th November at 12.00noon. Before we start sandwiches and juice will be provided. Please bring some treats to share and a spade each. Any wheel barrows would be fantastic. Please phone Becky Lueck on 657 1506.
Capoeira Dance Class
For Girls & Boys in Primary 3, 4 & 5.
This is a Brazilian Dance Class and is full of music, acrobatic movements and is great fun!
The class will run every Monday from 4.00pm ? 5.00pm from the 30th October for 8 weeks. The cost is £28.

Daily Record Drawing Competition
As proud sponsors of the Lion Enclosure at Edinburgh Zoo, the Daily Record would like to invite pupils to take part in an exciting competition.
Pupils at Primary Schools all over Edinburgh are to draw a picture of lions, and the winning design, chosen by a judging panel, will form part of the Daily Record?s signage at the entrances to the Lion Enclosure.
The winning pupil will be invited to the Daily Record offices to work with our Creative Head to produce the final artwork. Their school will also win a computer, worth £500. This is an exciting opportunity for our school to give something back to the community and to win a fantastic prize.
Please collect a booklet with more details on from Mrs Brown in the school office.
School Photographs
The school photographer will be in school to take pictures of the whole school and nursery on Monday 6th November. Please ensure your child is in school uniform on that day.
Feast of All Saints
Wednesday 1st November at 9.00am at St John?s Church. Primary 4 will prepare the Mass. Pupils should go directly to Church where staff will be there to meet them. If you do not wish your child to attend Mass please do not bring them to school until 10.00am.
Tape Recorders
If you have any tape recorders and you do not want them we would welcome them here to use in school.
