Dear Parents - Africa Week

Next week is our school Africa Week. All classes will participate in Expressive Arts Tasks, Stories, Dance & Drumming Workshops and Art Activities.

Mrs McGee has been very busy organising all of these experiences for the children. The celebrations will culminate in a special assembly with His Eminence Keith Patrick O?Brien, who will speak to staff and children about his experiences this summer living and working in Legho Village. Members of the group, including former pupils of the school, are hoping to join us. The children will sing ?Upendo? and recite the ?Glory be? in Swahili.

Benmore
Our campers return today and by all accounts they have had a wonderful time ? despite the rain. Our thanks must go to the P7a & P7b class teachers and Mrs Rutherford for taking the children to Benmore.

PTA AGM
The PTA AGM will take place on Thursday 28th September at 7.30pm and is open to all parents.

Lines
P1 pupils will be joining the P2, P3 and P7 lines, at the start of the day. We would ask that all parents, continue to observe safety rules and congregate outwith lining up areas and encourage your children to be responsible and line up with their class.

Bikes / Scooters
Pupils are requested not to cycle in the playground. This is very dangerous for younger pupils and toddlers, especially at the beginning and end of the school day.

New School Programme
You will all have received information regarding the updated proposals for a new school build for St John?s and Portobello High School. There will be a report going to a Council Executive meeting on 12th September to start the consultation process. Formal consultation will take place from 14th September ? 30th October.

A meeting will be held in school on 4th October, in the evening, where officers from the Authority will be present. This will give all interested parents an opportunity to put their views forward. A copy of plans are held in school and will be available to view.
